Fire Safety
Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
What is it?
It came into force in the autumn of 2006 and replaced the fire certificate and 78 other pieces of legislation. It will affect all forms of sleeping accommodations and is “Mandatory” for those operating premises.
How it works?
The law states that operators must take responsibility for fire safety themselves, so all accommodation owners will have to carry out a fire safety risk assessment, to determine the adequacy of their fire precautions in order to safeguard their guest in the event of a fire.
Whatever preventative or protect measure are needed as a result of the risk assessment, these need to be addressed and maintained by a competent person.
Whoever carries out the risk assessment will be liable for anything, which is found to be incorrect or
if anything goes wrong. The courts can impose fines and up to two years in prison.
Are Your Mattresses Protected?
New mattresses are pre-treated and bear a permanent label as flame protected Yet many have 'Fugitive' flame protection that
loses its ability to resist a flame and these need to be RE-TREATED.
· Is your beds part of your fire-risk assessment?
· Mattress fires -- what are the risks to your customers?
· Do you have a designated smoking room?
· Do your mattresses have adequate flame protection?
Did You Know?
- Some of today's mattresses can become engulfed in flames within only a few minutes of ignition
- ‘Flashover’ is when contents of a room simultaneously ignite and the fire spreads to other rooms
- Inherently flame retarded materials limit the peak rate of heat that can be released from a burning mattress
Our Non-Toxic FLAME BARRIER can take care of all the flame protection your mattresses need.
